Since 2016, the MAACASSO association organizes NYGO — an international art film and experimental video festival held annually in Paris. We champion independent voices aged 18 to 30 from across the globe, creating a vital competition that celebrates the bold, the unexpected, and the uncompromising.
Each year, a single theme guides every submission. Films are judged not only on technical craft, but on the courage of their artistic vision.
The jury, composed of art and culture professionals, awards the following prizes at the closing ceremony.
The 6th edition was held in a hybrid format due to Covid-19 restrictions, combining online screenings with a limited in-person closing ceremony at La Marbrerie.
NYGO — Nos Yeux Grands Ouverts (Our Eyes Wide Open) — is an international art film and experimental video festival founded in 2016 by the MAACASSO association in Paris. Each year, the festival convenes a jury of art and culture professionals to award young filmmakers aged 18 to 30 whose work challenges perception and expands vision.
The festival is organised under the French law of 1901 as a non-profit association. It relies on the passion of its volunteers, the commitment of its partners, and the courage of its participants.
MAACASSO is a French cultural association (loi 1901) dedicated to promoting young contemporary artistic creation. Beyond NYGO, the association organises workshops, residencies, and publications supporting emerging artists in the audiovisual field. Each year, a new team of young volunteers takes ownership of the festival — carrying its identity forward while renewing its energy.
The festival is guided by the belief that experimental film and art video represent one of the most underrecognised and essential mediums of contemporary artistic expression.
Films selected for NYGO are presented to a wide audience at the closing ceremony and made available to media partners and cultural institutions for further promotion.
This year's theme is My (re)view. We invite artists aged 18–30 to explore the gaze — the artist's view of the world, and the world's view of the artist.
Submit on FilmFreewayThis theme is to be developed from the singular to the plural, from the particular to the universal, from the personal to the collective. It can be treated as: the vision of an artist on someone or something; an individual's representation of themselves and their creation; or the perception of the artist of themselves or their art. The camera lens serves as an allegory of the artist's eye — revealing a form of omniscience. We wish that the films presented be the intense expression of the artists' visions and that they participate in opening the eyes of a wider audience, combining aesthetics and engagement.
